Q. seldom と rarely は 同じ意味ですか？
A. 同じ意味です。("Seldom" and "rarely" are synonymous and interchangeable.)
seldom と rarely は 同じ 準否定語 で、どちらも「ほとんどない」 を意味します。
また、 seldom も rarely も ever を付けることで、意味が強まります。
ex) I seldom (rarely) ever take a taxi.
□ seldom if ever めったに … しない = almost never
ex) We get comfortable with what we do and seldom if ever try new things.

hardly と scarcely は同じ意味
hardly = scarcely: almost not at all
Hardly and scarcely can mean ‘almost not at all’ or ‘only just'.
Hardly is much more common than scarcely, and scarcely is more formal.
hardly と seldom の違い
hardly は口語的、seldom はやや文語的です。
口語の場合、hardly ever や rarely が用いられ、
文語の場合、seldom や scarcely が使用されます。
hardly や seldom は 頻度を表す副詞 frequency adverbs と呼ばれます。
Frequency adverbs: hardly ever, rarely, scarcely and seldom.
Hardly の文語（強調・文語）型
Neutral: She hardly ever met her friends.
Formal: Hardly ever did she meet her friends.
hardly, seldom の付加疑問文
hardly, seldom は 準否定語 なので、付加疑問文が付く時は 肯定となります。
ex) You hardly see your parents, do you?

ex) The teacher always focus on students' academic test scores and very little else.
その教師は、生徒のテストの成績以外、ほとんど重視しない
■ barely 辛うじて
ex) It’s hard to make all the payments every month. I barely get by most months.
毎月の支払いをすることは困難で、辛うじて生計を立てている
□ be barely able to … 辛うじて … できる
ex) He was barely able to return to the entrance.
彼は辛うじて、入口まで戻ることができた
barely = almost not
ex) He is lying on the ground, exhausted and barely able to move.
彼は地面に横たわり、疲労のため 辛うじて動くことができる程度である
□ slim to nil ほとんどないか、ゼロである
ex) The chances of rain falling tomorrow are slim to nil.
明日、雨の降る可能性はほとんどゼロである
□ little or no ほとんどない
ex) This product has few or no remarkable features.
