"allow" は "allow … to ‥" のように、 "… （人）に‥することを許可する" の意味を持ちます。 また "allot" "allocate" と同様 "割り当てる" の意味でも使われます。

■ allow （時間や金銭を）割り当てる
ex) The test had more questions than I can complete in the time allowed.
制限時間内で、出来ない程の問題が出された

allow: to include (a quantity of time, money, etc.) as an appropriate amount
ex) The maximum amount of time allowed is 4 hours.
割り当てられた 時間は最長で４時間である

■ allot 割り当てる
ex) The lockers were allotted on first come first served basis to students.
ロッカーは、早い者勝ちで、学生たちに割り当てられた

allot: to give someone (an amount of something) to use or have
ex) The allotted time is 60 minutes but is expected to run longer.
割り当てられた時間は 60分であるが、実際には もう少しかかりそうだ

■ allocate 割り当てる
ex) What percentage of our marketing budget is allocated to advertising?
マーケティング予算のうち、何パーセントが広告出稿に割り当てられていますか？

allocate: to divide and give out (something) for a special reason or to particular people, companies, etc.
ex) A quarter of state operating funds are allocated to local governments.
1/4 の州の運営資金の 1/4 は地方自治体に割り当てられる

■ 　be allowed (out, in by, on)　　　…にいることが許されている、許可されている
ex) We are not allowed out after dark.
私たちは 暗くなってからの外出を許可されていない

allow: to permit (someone) to go or come in, out, etc.
ex) My boss wouldn't allow me to change my schedule.
上司は 私のスケジュール変更を許可しなかった

■ allow ... to .. ...が.. できるようにする
ex) The software allows you to monitor everything that happens on a PC.
そのソフトウエアは パソコン上で起こる全ての事を 関しできるようにする

allow: to make it possible for someone or something to have or do something
ex) Her experience allows her to handle difficult situations easily.
彼女の経験は 彼女に 困難な状況を 容易く扱うことを可能にした

■ allow 　　... （名詞が生じることを）可能にする
ex) Her full-time job did not allow her the flexibility.
フルタイムの仕事は 彼女の時間に 柔軟性 をもたらさなかった

allow: to make it possible for something to happen
ex) The system allows the easy transfer of data from one computer to another.
